Having earned his reputation first on dirt ovals and later, the road racing circuits in the United States, Kenny is one of the all-time "world greats" in motorcycling. This portrait shows him on the infamous Yamaha TZ750 -- a bike he rode only twice and considered 'unrideable.' After switching to road racing, in 1977 he won six of the seven AMA Formula One races and the following year became the first American to win a World 500 Grand Prix title. Kenny went on to rule the World Grand Prix circuit and by 1980 had won three consecutive World 500 Grand Prix titles. At the end of the 1983 season, he retired from full-time racing to form his own World 500 Grand Prix team and in 1996, created and developed the Modena KR3 Grand Prix motorcycle. He was presented the AMA Lifetime Achievement Award in 1998.
