Steve recorded his first career Grand national win at the Meadow Lands Half Mile in 1978. Quickly earning a reputation as a half-mile specialist, the "Findlay Flyer" was one of the top AMA Grand National Dirt Track racers through the 1990s. Steve won 23 AMA Nationals during his racing career. In 1998, at the age of 43, he brought in his last National win on the half-mile oval at Las Vegas and the following year took Super Tracker wins at Lima and Del Mar. He retired after the 1999 season as one of the oldest riders on the professional dirt track circuit. Steve signed this portrait at his home in Findlay, Ohio.
